Alex Walker-Griffin, Senior Associate
With his deep political knowledge and passion for social justice, Alex Walker-Griffin is an incredible asset and voice for BMWL and its clients.
Born and raised in the East Bay and inspired by his mother and maternal grandmother’s public service, Alex developed a passion for politics early on. Their belief that policy is the driver of change instilled his love for civic engagement. Alex’s late father, an Air Force veteran and retired Oakland Fire Marshall, was his constant reminder of service before self.
As one of the first elected officials from Generation Z—and California’s first Gen Z Mayor—Alex is a trailblazer for the next generation of public servants. His political journey began with an internship in Congressman Mark DeSaulnier’s Richmond office, where he supported constituent services and built a foundation in public outreach. He went on to serve in the Office of the Richmond City Council, gaining firsthand experience in local governance and community engagement. While attending Contra Costa College, Alex emerged as a student leader, serving as President of Community Organizing and Political Action and completing a term as Student Body President.
In 2017, he was appointed to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors representing 2.3 million students and is one of the founding members of Calbright College, the nation’s first 100 percent online community college. He further honed his public policy skills at Platinum Advisors and most recently, Alex was the Chief Lobbyist for March For Our Lives- California and a lobbyist for Arnold and Porter.
After community college, Alex earned his Bachelor's degree from Saint Mary’s College of California where he majored in Politics. Alex completed his Masters Degree in Government at Johns Hopkins University in 2024.
Outside of work, Alex is an army officer and commander of his unit. He enjoys traveling, football and baseball, and trying new ice cream spots.
